The Georgia Social Indicator Study examines social indicators in conjunction with substance use in Georgia on a county-level to produce a predictive analysis regarding the association between social indicators and substance use. Volumes I, II, & III cover all substance use indicators. Volumes IV, V, & VI focus on opioid-specific indicators. This study will serve as a timely and useful tool in prevention planning.

These data were analyzed to generate nationally representative weighted estimates for (1) all drug-related ED visits, (2) the top substances involved in drug-related ED visits, (3) opioid-related ED visits by type, and (4) polysubstance-related ED visits."

An 8-mg intranasal naloxone formulation, a higher-concentration product than had previously been available, was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2021 for emergency treatment of known or suspected opioid overdose. This study examined outcomes among persons who received the 8-mg naloxone product and those who receive the usual 4-mg product to treat suspected overdose in New York state. New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) partnered with New York State Police (NYSP) to field test 8-mg intranasal naloxone use by some NYSP troops.

Despite the increased naloxone concentration in the 8-mg intranasal product, no significant differences were found in the survival of aided persons, or the number of doses administered by law enforcement by formulation, suggesting that, in this field test, the increased dosage did not provide added benefit, even in light of the increased prevalence of synthetic opioids, including fentanyl, in the drug supply.

These data were analyzed to generate nationally representative weighted estimates (1) for all drug-related ED visits, (2) for the top drugs involved in drug-related ED visits, (3) for different opioid types involved in ED visits, (4) to describe polysubstance in ED visits, and (5) to identify newly mentioned drugs in 2022."

19.9% of high school students ever witnessed community violence
3.5% reported carrying a gun during the previous 12 months
Ever witnessing community violence and gun carrying were more prevalent among males than females and for American Indian or Alaska Native, Black, Hispanic, and multiracial students compared to Asian or White students.

Ever witnessing community violence and gun carrying are associated with increases in seriously considered attempting suicide, attempted suicide, current binge drinking, current marijuana use, lifetime prescription opioid misuse, and lifetime illicit drug use.
